About You

You are a technically strong and execution-driven engineering leader who thrives in fast-paced environments. You are passionate about building systems that are robust, scalable, and maintainable and you enjoy working alongside engineers to coach, support, and grow their capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Execution & Delivery
    • Lead sprint planning, retrospectives, and technical prioritization to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
    • Drive a consistent and high-quality development process across multiple engineering squads.
    • Collaborate with the fractional CTO and product managers to translate strategic goals into executable engineering work.
    • Identify and resolve architectural or technical debt issues, escalating to Principal Engineer or CTO as needed.
  • Team Leadership & Enablement
    • Manage and support a team of software engineers, creating an environment where they can do their best work.
    • Set clear goals and performance expectations, and provide timely feedback and coaching.
    • Collaborate with engineers’ technical leads or mentors to ensure ongoing growth and capability development.
  • Process and Quality Improvements
    • Implement and refine lightweight processes that enhance engineering velocity, quality, and reliability.
    • Champion code quality, test automation, observability, and security best practices.
    • Collaborate with security and compliance stakeholders to ensure operational discipline (SOC2, ISO27001 readiness).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner closely with Product, Design, and Customer Success to ensure a clear understanding of customer needs and technical implications.
    • Provide visibility into engineering progress, risks, and constraints.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2+ years in engineering management.
  • Strong technical background in modern web development (e.g. Python, Node.js, Golang, React).
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, observability, IaC).
  • Experience working in high-velocity teams that ship iteratively while maintaining high standards.
  • Clear communicator with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Bonus: Experience working in B2B SaaS, especially in HR tech or compliance-sensitive environments.
